The Three Levels of Joyful Creation

Over the years, I’ve created products, businesses, and experiences that have taught me something profound: joy in the creative process has layers. Each level is more fulfilling than the last, and every entrepreneur, artist, and visionary can experience these layers. They’re not just stages—they’re powerful shifts that make the journey more meaningful. Let’s dive into each one.

Level 1:
The Joy of Dreaming and Setting an Intention

This is where every creation begins. There’s a special kind of joy in seeing an idea in your mind, imagining it taking shape, and feeling it as if it already exists. For many, this is the purest thrill of creation—the potential of what could be.

It’s a feeling I’ve experienced countless times, whether envisioning a new product or an event like The Breakthrough Weekend. In that initial moment, the dream feels expansive, energizing, and full of possibility. It’s not yet weighed down by the details or hurdles, just the seed of something that could grow into greatness.

Level 2:
The Joy of Bringing Your Idea to Life

Then comes the next level of joy—when you’re in the trenches, putting in the effort to make your idea real. This is where dreams meet discipline. There’s satisfaction in each step, each solved problem, each late-night breakthrough. It’s the joy of seeing something take shape in your hands, of knowing that you’re creating from a place of intention and focus.

A client once told me that she felt like she was “laying each brick of her legacy.” And that’s what this stage feels like—slow, deliberate, but full of satisfaction. There’s nothing like seeing your dream come to life.

Level 3:
The Highest Joy – When Creation and Creator Become One

But the deepest joy is when others experience your creation and reflect back the very intention you put into it. This is the stage where you realize you’ve created something bigger than yourself—a space, a moment, an experience that transcends your initial vision.

I experienced this at our latest Breakthrough Weekend. As I listened to participants describe their experiences, I heard my own intentions echoed in their words. They spoke of deep clarity, connection, and transformation—exactly what I’d hoped this weekend would bring them. In that moment, the line between creator and creation vanished. My vision was alive, independent of me, and yet, completely aligned with what I had intended.

Just recently, I spoke with an award-winning director who described this experience as “the space where the creator and the created become one.” He couldn’t have put it better. This is the ultimate reward—the highest level of joy.

Pause & Reflect

Take a moment to think about where you are in your own journey. These questions might help:

  1. Level 1: What vision lights you up right now? How can you deepen your commitment to making it real?
  2. Level 2: Are you actively building it? What small steps could you take today to bring it closer to life?
  3. Level 3: Imagine others experiencing your work in the way you hope. What words do you want to hear from them that would show you’ve truly brought your vision to life?

Let these reflections remind you of the joy available at every stage.

Coaching Tool of the Week

The Joyful Creation Journal

This week, as you work on any project or idea, take a moment to check in on which level of joy you’re experiencing. Here’s a simple but powerful exercise:

infographic web resposnive

1.

Document the Spark: If you’re in Level 1, write down your vision, the feeling behind it, and why it matters to you.

2.

Track Your Progress: For those in Level 2, keep a daily or weekly journal of small wins and breakthroughs. Celebrate each step forward, no matter how small.

3.

Listen for Reflection: If you’re in Level 3, listen to the words others use when they describe your work. Do they reflect your intention? Are you hearing the impact you envisioned?

By tracking your joy at each level, you’ll gain a deeper appreciation for every part of the creative journey.

You’ll see that each layer of joy builds on the last, creating a profound experience that’s as fulfilling as the finished product itself.

Final Thought

Creation isn’t just a process; it’s a journey through levels of joy and fulfillment. From that initial spark of vision to seeing your work come alive in the hearts of others, there’s beauty and growth at every stage. Embrace each level fully and allow your work to transcend your own experience, becoming something others can connect with and cherish.

Keep playing your Infinite Game,
Coach Sid
